Hello, and welcome to my first Studio Diary post!
My name is Tegan Bailey, and if you're reading this, you're familiar with my art but might be less acquainted with the person behind the paintbrush. In this inaugural post, I'd like to share a bit about my journey, my discoveries, and the transformative power of art in my life.
Growing up, I was always drawn to creativity. From painting to embroidery, creating was a constant in my life, nurtured by a family filled with creative women. Their influence is still evident in my artwork today, as I weave the skills and love for textile arts imparted to me into my work.
Fast forward to adulthood, my passion for art led me to complete a Bachelor of Arts (Fine Arts) and a Bachelor of Teaching. Initially, my path took me into special education, a fulfilling career that lasted for 14 years. Throughout this period, the need to create remained strong, often presenting as a refuge, a means of communication, and an exploration of identity.
Then came an unexpected yet profound turning point - I was identified as Autistic in my mid-30s. This revelation reframed my understanding of myself, my relationships, and my experiences, past and present. It was a turning point that led me back to my passion for arts in earnest.
As an Autistic artist, my artwork serves as a mirror reflecting my journey. It became an avenue to explore and re-examine memories, bringing depth and variety into each piece through layers of acrylic paint, medium, collage, and various line-making tools.
Today, I am embracing my newfound journey as a full-time artist. This space, *Artistic Musings*, will serve as a chronicle of my journey - the triumphs, the challenges, the inspiration, and the evolution of my work.
