Artist Statement
As an Autistic artist with a rich 14-year background in special education, I intertwine my unique personal and professional experiences to create intimate narratives on neurodiversity. This union gives me a dual-lens—both as an observer of the unique perceptions of neurodiverse students and as a late-diagnosed individual striving for self-understanding.
My artistry, a blend of acrylic paint, collage, printing, stamping, and drawing, captures my journey and delves into memories layer by layer, revisiting them with newfound insights and interpretations. This introspective process serves a dual purpose. On the one hand, it's an avenue for cathartic release and deep emotional exploration; on the other, it's a therapeutic reflection of my ongoing pursuit of a Master's in Arts Therapy. As I stand on the brink of transitioning into an art therapist, each artwork represents a step towards understanding the therapeutic potency of artistic expression.
Inviting viewers into a world nuanced by my Autistic experience, my pieces are not mere artworks but resonate as deep visual narratives. Their complexity and depth mirror the intricacies of the human mind, emphasising our shared yet diverse experiences. Through my work, I seek to inspire dialogue, foster empathy, and present a fresh lens to the captivating realm of neurodiversity.
